With the exception of the grand prize, all of our prizes are part of a pool from which winning contestants select, starting with the first runner-up.  With the two previous challenges we have run, all of our winners have been lucky enough to receive either their first or second choice of items The number of prizes actually given out from the prize pool will depend in part upon the number of participants we have, as only the top 10% of entrants will be awarded a prize.   GRAND PRIZE: A choice between one of three signed editions: Choice 1) Dragonholder by Todd McCaffrey, signed by Anne McCaffrey US first edition hardcover book in Very Fine condition.  This biographical scrapbook about Anne, written by her son Todd is out of print and very scarce as well as valuable.  Online booksellers typically ask for $40-$70 for ex-library copies (i.e., not very good copies with stamps and stickers from libraries stuck on them).  This is NOT an ex-lib copy, and it has been signed by Anne McCaffrey, making it quite a valuable collectible, in addition to being an enjoyable read for all McCaffrey fans! Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff If the grand prize winner should prefer to pass on one of these books, he/she will be free to choose a different prize from the prize pool items listed below.  The signed books, however, will not be available to runners-up should the grand prize winner pass on the opportunity. Additionally, the grand prize winner will receive a unique t-shirt (available size S-4XL), announcing yourself as the 2006 winner every time you wear it!  The design of this shirt for 2006 has not been finalized at this time.  Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff Black Crystal Black crystal, the most highly-prized of all Ballybran crystals.  Of course this isn't a real Ballybran crystal, but a Terran Quartz one, standing 3 inches high and cut into a hexagonal pillar.  Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff   Starstream Comic #3 This is one of four volumes, which collected graphic adaptations of science fiction stories.  This particular volume contains "Crystal Singer" by Anne McCaffrey, which is an adaptation of the "Milekey Mountain" short story published originally in Continuum 3 and later incorporated into the first Crystal Singer novel.  This copy is in very fine condition, though the pages are yellowed as one would expect of a pulp magazine printed in 1976. Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff     Dragonlover's Guide to Pern by Jody Lynn Nye with Anne McCaffrey 1st edition, 2nd printing hardcover US book club edition, containing a detailed guide to the world of Pern. Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff   Dragonriders of Pern boardgame, 2nd Edition This is the 1989 edition of the Dragonriders of Pern boardgame published by Mayfair Games.  This game is designed for 1-7 players, and Todd McCaffrey served as a design consultant.  Board art is by David Bromley, character art by Robin Wood, other art by Jim Clouse.  Game is in gently used condition. Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff   Dragonflight 3-in-1 Graphic Novel This is the UK edition of the 3-in-1 combined edition of the graphic novel adaptation of Dragonflight, done by Eclipse Comics in 1992. Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff     Dragonflight Graphic Novel Volume #1 This is the first of three volumes of the graphic novel adaptation of Dragonflight, done by Eclipse Comics, published in 1991.  Copy is in fine condition. Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff     Dragonflight Graphic Novel Poster #1 This large poster (approximately 24 by 36 inches) depicts the artwork from the cover of the first volume of the three-part graphic novel adaptation of Dragonflight done by Eclipse Comics. Poster is in fine condition, no tears. Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff     Dragonflight Graphic Novel Poster #2 This large poster (approximately 24 by 36 inches) depicts the artwork from the cover of the second volume of the three-part graphic novel adaptation of Dragonflight done by Eclipse Comics. Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff     Promotional Poster for The Atlas of Pern, signed by Anne McCaffrey These small posters (approximately 12 x 15.5 inches) were used to promote The Atlas of Pern in the UK.  This one has been signed by Anne McCaffrey.  (Image shown is not of the poster itself; poster depicts cover as shown with a white border and text at the bottom "Out now in Corgi paperback"). Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff   A Collector's Guide to the Works of Anne McCaffrey by Rebecca Skinner and Diana Mullins-Atkinson This is a guide by collectors for collectors, designed to be taken with you on book hunts and marked upon.  Published in 1999, with supplemental pages to bring the guide up-to-date. Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff   Frank Kelly Freas Art Post Cards This set of eight large art cards were given to attendees at the Science Fiction Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in 2006, when both Freas and Anne McCaffrey were inducted.  Included in this prize is a copy of the itinerary for the induction weekend and a copy of the badge of an attendee.  None of the artwork depicts the cover of an Anne McCaffrey book. Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff   Deluxe Dragon Bookmark This small bookmark (approx. 4.5 inches) is made of brass and pewter features a flying dragon along with beads of carnelian and hematite.  A stylish way for a dragon fan to mark a page in his/her current reading book. Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff     Dragons of Pern T-Shirt XL t-shirt featuring the Michael Whelan Dragonflight cover artwork, with the text "Dragons of Pern". Prize donated by A Meeting of Minds Staff   Color-Change Dragon T-Shirt L or XL t-shirt (choice of the winner) features a dragon done with solar-active ink.  Indoors, the entire design appears black and white.  In sunlight the image transforms into full glorious color as shown.  This shirt is machine washable and 100% cotton.
